Clinical Benefits EECP ® Therapy produces beneficial effects on perfusion of theischemic myocardium in patients with coronary artery disease. The following benefits have been observed: • Relief of anginal symptoms• Resolution of reversible ischemic defects found uponradionuclide assessment • Improved exercise treadmill times• Rectification of exercise ECG ST segment abnormalities• No need or reduction of need for antianginal medications• Ability to enjoy a more independently mobile and activelifestyle
R esearch StudiesClinical studies have shown that EECP® Therapy can relieve or eliminate angina and improve radionuclide scan perfusion defects. Researchers at the Health Sciences Center at the State University of New York at Stony Brook began clinical studies of EECP® Therapy in 1989. More than six hundred patients have been studied, and results have been presented at national cardiology meetings. These studies demonstrated that benefits of EECP® Therapy are maintained for at least three years following a full course of treatment. In controlled multicenter studies, patients actively treated with EECP® Therapy demonstrated statistically significant improvements in physical activity and quality of life.
Alternative to Bypass Surgery or Angioplasty Invasive procedures such as balloon angioplasty and coronary artery bypass grafting may bring relief and a normal life for patients with angina pectoris. However, these procedures fail frequently, are not without risk of harmful aftereffects and are expensive. EECP® Therapy is a noninvasive, distress-free option that can be a viable alternative to bypass surgery or angioplasty. Unlike invasive procedures, EECP® Therapy can be administered in outpatient sessions, carries little or no risk and is relatively comfortable.
Noninvasive Treatment for Angina Pectoris It is now possible to provide sustained relief to your patients with chronic angina pectoris using a non-invasive treatment called EECP® Therapy. EECP® Therapy is often used to treat patients who are not candidates for invasive procedures because they are unsuitable or unwilling.

Here’s what patients say about EECP® Therapy......"EECP ® Therapy brought meback to a normal life. Give EECP ®a chance before trying anything invasive like surgery."
..."EECP ® Therapy has made mefeel younger and put me on the right track."
If you or someone you know is among the more than 7 million people in this country who suffer the crippling chest pain of angina pectoris, you should know about EECP® therapy. happens during treatment. "Enhanced" refers to the state-of-the-art technology that has developed during decades of research and is used for EECP® treatment today. EECP® treatment is "external" because it happens outside the body and does not require surgery or other invasive procedures. Counter pulsation occurs between heart beats. controlled, clinical studies, with positive medical results and demonstrated quality of life improvement. A treatment, in harmony with patients heart, can improve circulation to the heart muscle. After EECP® treatment, patients may find that: they can walk farther; carry heavier packages and be more active without having angina; they have fewer attacks of angina; their episodes of angina are less intense; they need less anti-anginal medication; they can return to work, go out to dinner, garden, travel, or enjoy golf, tennis, or bowling once again; they no longer restrict their social lives, volunteer activities, or exercise because they are worried that they will cause angina.
Low-Risk Treatment for Angina A low-risk treatment for angina, EECP® Therapy gently but firmly compresses the vasculature of the legs to increase blood flow to the heart, ultimately reducing or eliminating chest pain. Usually triggered by physical exertion or emotional stress, angina occurs when the heart muscle needs more oxygen than is available from the blood supply nourishing the heart. This usually happens because narrowed or blocked arteries are restricting the flow of blood.
No Recovery Time or Pain Invasive procedures, such as bypass surgery and balloon angioplasty, typically are recommended as treatment. A noninvasive option is now available. For suitable candidates, EECP® Therapy can relieve angina without surgery and hospitalization or the associated pain and recovery time. During treatment, patients lie on a padded table in which sets of electronically controlled inflation and deflation valves are located. These valves are connected to specially designed adjustable cuffs that are wrapped firmly, but comfortably, around the patient’s calves, lower thighs, and upper thighs, including the buttocks. The cuffs are inflated sequentially and rapidly from the calves toward the upper thighs while the heart is in its resting phase, and deflated just before the heart beats. The result is an increased supply of blood to the heart muscle and a reduction in the heart’s workload.
A Natural Bypass Studies indicate that EECP® Therapy facilitates blood flow to the heart muscle in spite of blocked arteries. When EECP® Therapy increases blood flow to the heart, it is believed to open and expand networks of small blood vessels within the heart called collaterals. These channels can create "natural bypasses" around clogged arteries, boosting blood supply to oxygen-deprived areas of the heart. The permanent opening of these channels may account for the long-lasting benefits of EECP® Therapy, demonstrated in three follow-up studies of patients who had received EECP® Therapy. Most of the patients studied could not have been treated effectively with medication, angioplasty or bypass surgery.
Active Again EECP® usually can reduce or eliminate the frequency and intensity of chest pain and remove the need for angina medication. People who have received EECP® Therapy report an overall improvement in the quality of their lives. After treatment, patients are usually able to enjoy everyday activities, which frequently include moderate exercise, walking, gardening and traveling.
